The AT-3D is a patent-pending innovative additive manufacturing tool. It has several key innovations which facilitate the additive manufacturing of metal components. The first concerns its ability to operate in a “dual mode” whereby it can print using metal wire or metal powder as input feed, affording the benefits of both material forms. A further innovative feature is its very compact design (27cm tall, 15cm wide) which maximizes the potential for its installation as a retrofit to existing robotic, gantry and CNC systems. It’s most significant innovation concerns the use of multiple direct diode lasers which afford the dual mode capability while substantially reducing overall cost. The AT-3D comprises the innovative deposition head and a compact supply cabinet housing the direct diode lasers, associated power supplies, a dedicated cooling system, a single powder feeder, and a single wire feeder. Product options offered include additional powder feeders (up to a maximum of 6), an additional wire feeder (up to a maximum of 4), and total laser power output options ranging between 0.8kW and 2kW.
